Common table salt additives over time begin to feed a bacteria which can cause inflammatory disease of any portion of the GI tract.

GI - Gastro Intestinal Tract, any part of the internal canal from the lips to the rectum

Also called Alimentary Canal

Composed of many areas:

  • mouth, throat, tongue, salivary glands,
  • eosophogus
  • stomach
  • small intestines
  • large intestines
  • bowel

Iritable bowel disease IBD, is a chronic syndrome of abdominal pain and changes in the pattern of bewel movements without any evidence of underlying damage, often lasts for years.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract and may affect any part from the mouth to the anus

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition limited to the colon, otherwise known as the large intestine.

Canadian statistics reported Nov 1, 2018 as:

  • 270,000 are living with IBD – Iritable bowel disease
  • 135,000 with Crohn's disease
  • 120,000 with ulcerative colitis
  • 15,000 with unclassified IBD
By 2030, IBD will increase by an alarming 50% with an estimated 400,000 Canadians
approximately 1% of the population.

  • P.fluorescens, Pseudomonas fluorescens, a common bacteria

There is also an intriguing association between P. fluorescens and human disease, in that approximately 50% of Crohn's disease patients develop serum antibodies to the I2 antigen encoded by P. fluorescens, and in some studies, this seroreactivity has correlated with the success of therapies aimed at the microbiome rather than the immune system.

Bacteria have been isolated that use cyanide as a source of nitrogen for growth. Because cyanide, as KCN or NaCN, is toxic for growth, the bacteria (Pseudomonas fluorescens) have to be grown in fed-batch culture with cyanide as the limiting nutrient.

  • K is potassium
  • Na is sodium
  • CN is cyanide

Once adapted P.fluorescens will feed on cyanide which is often an additive to table salt.

Many table salts add flow agents [anti-caking agents]

  • E535 sodium ferrocyanide
  • E536 potassium ferrocyanide
  • E538 calcium ferrocyanide
