Brushing
- Most dental decay and root canals are on the left upper side of the mouth.
- This is due to right handed people grinding their gums away brushing.
- Brush the teeth, not the gums.
- Point the bristles towards the ceiling or the floor, not sideways.
- Brush the crowns of teeth, not the gums
- Sodium (salt) or baking powder (contains sodium) is good for brushing
- Some toothpastes are salty (Saltz brand from Japan)
Cavities
- Known in medicine - enamel can heal from a cavity
- Most cavities are caused by bacteria (strep)
- Bacteria form a protective layer called plaque
- Removing the bacteria allows the body to heal enamel
- Xylitol, in chewing gum, inhibits bacteria
- Ask your dentist about xylitol, many products now available

- salicicylates, group of molecules
- salicyclic acid, topical: wart removal, back pain
Aspirin for Toothache
Aspirin is the same as acetyl-salicylic-acid
- Do this ONLY 2 times per week.
- Not good for people with stomach ulcers
- Caution for people who bruise easily
- Break a regular aspirin (325mg) in half or quarters
- Hold part of an aspirin between teeth where it hurts
- Let it dissolve over a few minutes
- Wait a full day to use the other half in the same way
- Do not do this more than 2 times
- Can do it again a full week later
- Time to heal can take a week
- Aspirin's effects are long lasting
- If toothache comes back months later do it again
